Denise Brown is a fundraiser, volunteer, but a mother first. For the past 5 years, Denise has organized Brooke’s Butterfly Bash Foundation, a non-profit to benefit children and families in our community that are battling Lupus, partnered with the Lupus Foundation, Florida Chapter and Tampa General Hospital Foundation.

Denise’s passion for this cause is her way of keeping her daughter, Brooke Brown’s, legacy. Brooke lost her battle to Lupus in October 2017. She was just 18. Brooke’s illness over the years defined her purpose of helping children by wanting to become a pediatric nurse. Denise now makes sure she is seeing Brooke’s purpose through. Denise’s goal is to prevent another child from suffering, like Brooke. Denise’s inclusion of Tampa General Hospital as a beneficiary is to provide families suffering from lupus with financial assistance as they navigate their health journey. Funds can cover expenses needed, pharmaceutical costs and equipment needed to aid in the patient’s personal treatment.

Our partnership with Lupus Foundation of America helps provide funds for research to better children’s medications and provides financial help to the families.

Supporting Children & Families Undergoing Treatment for Lupus

The Tampa General Hospital (TGH) Foundation is proud to be a beneficiary of the Brooke’s Butterfly Bash for 2022-2023. In 2016, Brooke Brown used three words to define herself that truly align with the the mission and purpose of TGH: strength, convalescent and purposefulness.

We are honored to be a part of Brooke's legacy and look forward to growing this partnership for many years to come.

Funds raised by Brooke's Butterfly Bash will help support these children and their families by doing things such as:

  • covering a mortgage payment or electric, water or other bill
  • covering the cost of medications for treatment
  • purchasing items needed to return home after a hospital stay
  • purchasing items needed to help with distraction during a hospital stay
  • purchasing gift cards to grocery stores such as Publix and/or CVS
  • and more.....

The USF Health Clinic will work together with the TGH Foundation to identify lupus children and families that are in financial need. They will then offer the family financial support using this fund and keep in touch with the family to ensure their needs are met.
